Parkstone Water Tower, Poole, Dorset

David James Architects have designed this exciting yet sympathetic conversion and extension of the Grade II listed Parkstone Water Tower, in Poole, Dorset. The design respects the heritage of the tower whilst enhancing the local area.

The proposals involve retaining the existing water tower and its original character by converting it into three loft style apartments. The new build apartments will be set to the west of the site, linking to the existing water tower via a glazed atrium and vertical circulation core. The new build has been designed in a highly contemporary, minimal architectural style, to contrast with the existing water tower, and in doing so better revealing and respecting the architecture of the tower. The new apartments will provide views over the townscape, sea, and Purbeck Hills.

These proposals are an effective means of securing the long-term conservation of the water tower, whilst creating new homes and bringing quality contemporary design to the area. We are proud to be working with Nest Homes on this exciting, landmark project.
